KNEC Announces Commencement of 2025 KCSE Exam Registration
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially begun the registration process for the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination. The registration period runs from February 17 to March 28, 2025.
Registration Process
- Online Registration: All candidates must be registered through the KNEC online portal at www.knec-portal.ac.ke.
- Institutional Responsibility: Heads of institutions are responsible for registering their candidates and ensuring their eligibility.
- Strict Regulations: Registration of ineligible candidates is considered malpractice and may lead to sanctions, including de-registration of the school as a KNEC examination centre.
Requirements for Registration
- Accurate Candidate Details: Institutions must provide the correct details of each candidate, including:
- Full names (as they appear on the KCPE examination certificate).
- Gender.
- Year of birth.
- Citizenship status.
- Entry codes for first-time or repeating candidates.
- Passport-Sized Photographs: Candidates must upload correct passport-size photographs (300 x 300 pixels), and changes will not be allowed after the registration period ends.
Registration for Private Candidates
- Registration Points: Private candidates must register at Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDEs) offices.
- Proof of Eligibility: Candidates must present a National ID Card, birth certificate, or passport for verification.
- Examination Centres: Private candidates will take theory and practical exams at designated county headquarters.
- Registration Fee: Private candidates are required to pay a Ksh 7,200 registration fee through e-Citizen.
Guidelines
- Verification: Candidates should confirm their registration details to ensure accuracy.
- Exam Eligibility: Access to examination centres will only be granted to candidates who can prove their eligibility using official identification documents.
- Government Sponsorship: The government will cover examination fees for candidates in both public and private schools, except:
- Repeaters.
- Non-Kenyan candidates.
- Private candidates registering through sub-county private examination centres.
