About IRC
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global humanitarian organization dedicated to responding to the world’s worst crises. Established in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC provides life-saving assistance and long-term support to refugees, displaced populations, and vulnerable communities across over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities.
The IRC in New York City runs the Matching Grant (MG) program, which helps refugees achieve self-sufficiency through early employment services. The program is federally funded and serves as an alternative to public cash assistance programs, with the goal of placing refugees in paid employment within 180 – 240 days of their arrival in the U.S.
Scope of Work
The Matching Grant Intern will support the MG team by assisting in employment services, case management, and administrative tasks. The intern will work under the Employment Supervisor and MG Coordinator, providing one-on-one and group support to MG clients as they navigate their journey toward economic independence.
This position offers valuable hands-on experience in refugee employment services, case management, professional development, and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Employment Assistance & Client Support
- Assist clients with job search activities, including resume writing, job applications, interview coaching, and onboarding processes.
- Support MG case managers in addressing client needs such as childcare, transportation planning, and access to in-kind donations.
- Offer one-on-one and group employment counseling to MG clients.
2. Program & Community Engagement
- Assist with Job Club sessions and Matching Grant community events at the IRC office in Glendale, NYC.
- Provide gender-equitable services, ensuring all clients receive fair and inclusive support.
- Engage with local employers and stakeholders to support client employment opportunities.
3. Administrative & Compliance Support
- Maintain program documentation in accordance with federal grant requirements.
- Support data entry and file organization for MG program compliance.

Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program related to:
- Human Resources
- Social Services
- Social & Behavioral Sciences
- Or a related field.
Skills & Competencies:
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Adaptable in a fast-paced, changing work environment.
- Strong communication skills and interest in public speaking.
- Experience or interest in coaching, mentoring, or advocacy work.
